5 Placement Tips for Your Casters
Casters are used to make almost anything move and to do this they can be placed in multiple different styles. Here are five basic ways that casters can be installed to help you push your carts for efficiency and safety.
1.) The first design involves using 2 swivel casters and 2 rigid casters. The 2 swivel casters should be placed on one end of the cart and the other 2 rigid casters on the opposite end of the cart. This allows you to maintain a straight line when pushing the cart. However this cart-caster system is unable to be pushed sideways
2.) Another caster design is to just have 4 swivel casters, on on each end of your cart. This design is organized to provide a more movable cart. This type of cart is able to be pushed in practically any manner. However, this design is most effective for small items and is difficult to push straight for long periods of time.
3.) The third caster arrangement utilizes 4 swivel casters and 2 rigid casters. This arrangement is generally used for heavier loads. These casters are arranged with the 4 swivel casters along the outside corners of the cart, and the 2 rigid casters in the middle. Generally, the 2 rigid casters that are placed in the middle are larger in height than the 4 swivel casters along the edges of the cart, this allows the cart to be able to turn around the whole length of the cart.
4.) This variation is essentially the same as the third arrangement, as it utilizes both rigid and swivel casters as well. For this cart set up 2 rigid and 2 swivel casters are used, with 2 in the middle of the cart and 2 along the outsides of the cart. Another difference is that in this case height does not matter.
5.) The final variation utilizes 4 rigid casters; 2 in the middle and 2 on the ends. The 2 casters that are placed in the middle should be larger than those paced along the outside, to allow the cart to turn. This arrangement however, is best used for lightweight carts moving only short distances.
